For the retail flours the best before is inked on the top of the packages. For the no additive cereals the best before date is printed on the back of the bag.

MFD stands for manufacturing date; this date is inked on the side of our 20 kg bags. White flour has a shelf life of one year from this date and whole wheat flour is eight months from this date

This information is listed directly on the packages. The website Products page lists images of all the retail packages. Click on the package you are interested in.

The granola which contains almonds could run a risk of cross contamination with peanuts and other tree nuts. The granola is produced in a different facility than our flour and no additive cereal products, so those products are not at risk.

Oats themselves do not contain gluten; however they are subject to gluten contamination through contact with wheat crops in the field and are therefore not considered gluten free. We also process wheat products in the facility where we process our no additive cereals.

ROGERS does not produce gluten free products. Our no additive cereals are produced in a wheat processing plant, and our Granola consists of 5 different grains, one of which is wheat.

Porridge Oats & Ancient Grains is not gluten free as is contains several grains including spelt and barley that contain gluten. This product is also processed in our facility where we process wheat products.

The grains used in ROGERS flour and no additive cereals are NON GMO. The Canadian Government authorities have assured us there is no genetically modified wheat, rye, triticale, barley or oats commercially produced in Canada.

No, none of our retail flours and no additive cereals are organic, however we do produce organic flour on a wholesale basis and it is available at our Mill store in Armstrong, British Columbia.

Yes, the flour and no additive cereals are vegan. The granolas contain milk products in them so they are not.

The use of glyphosate is essential in some modern day farming practices.  Health Canada has determined maximum residue limits for glyphosate in grain and flour.  ROGERS test results have been well below the guidelines set by Health Canada.

ROGERS only uses Canadian grains in the retail flour and most of the no additive cereal products.  The exception to this is the Porridge Oats & Ancient Grains, which uses a quinoa flake from Bolivia. However there may come a time when we would bring grains from the USA

Wheat is an agricultural product, which is grown, harvested and stored virtually unprocessed before it comes to our mill. Flour products require cooking before consumption. The milling process does not reach temperatures that will remove the risk of contamination that is associated with unprocessed wheat.

This Food Safety warning is related to the fact that these products are produced from the flour milling process. The milling process does not reach temperatures that will remove the risk of contamination that is associated with unprocessed wheat.

Many of Rogers no additive cereals include wheat bran which we advice not to eat raw.  The two cereals we consider safe to eat raw are Large Flake Oats and Porridge Oats Ancient Grains.  Neither of these products contain wheat bran.

Oat bran is predominantly soluble fibre, and wheat bran is mostly insoluble fibre.

Soluble fibre absorbs water and forms a gel.  Its health benefits include lowering blood cholesterol and managing blood glucose. Insoluble fibre speeds gut transit time of the food through the body, making you more regular. Both types can make you feel full longer, thereby reducing appetite.

Ground flax seeds have a shorter-shelf life than the whole seeds. Ground flax seeds would shorten the entire shelf life of the no additive cereals.  Whole flax seeds are beneficial for digestive health.

Quick oats are processed to be smaller pieces that cook in less than 5 minutes.  ROGERS Large Flake Oats are less processed, and have a lower glycemic index then quick oats.  They cook 7 to 10 minutes on the stove top and about 2 to 3 minutes in the microwave. Steel Cut oats are cut with a steel blade into coarse pieces.  They take about 45 minutes to cook.   They have the lowest glycemic index.

ROGERS Porridge Oats Steel Cut Oats Blend is a mix of steel cut oats, large flake oats, oat bran, wheat bran and flax seeds.  This blend reduces the cook time of traditional steel cut oats from 45 minutes to 20 minutes and still maintains a low glycemic index.

Bread flour is often referred to as strong flour because it has about 2% more gluten than All Purpose flour.  Bread flour also has ascorbic acid and an amylase enzyme added which are dough enhancers.  These three additions to the Bread flour will produce great bread either in a bread machine or by hand.

No Additive All Purpose flour is unbleached flour that includes enrichments only.  Our All Purpose flour is bleached and contains ascorbic acid as well as the enrichments.

The ingredients listed are classified as enrichments and not additives. In 1953 a law was passed in Canada stating that the natural occurring vitamins that are removed with the wheat germ must be replaced.  All white flour in Canada is enriched.

Lemon Juice is a natural dough enhancer.  When making dough products it is added to increase the elasticity of the dough which in turn allows for a better rise.

Store flour and no additive cereals in air tight containers in the fridge or freezer to maximize freshness and extend the shelf-life. Some of ROGERS products are packaged in resealable bags, and are best stored in the original package.

Yes, especially if they have been stored in a cold place.  Products can still be good for months past the BB date.  You will know when they are no longer useable once you detect an off odour and taste.
